Our mission & vision

About

Brandywine Workshop and Archives (BWA), a non-profit art institution, preserves and promotes the art of fine art printmaking by providing a space for the exploration of traditional, contemporary and innovative printing technologies. With a clear focus on collaboration between artists and master printers, BWA serves as a portal to global cultural perspectives and audiences through easy access to its art collections and learning tools. Brandywine strives to educate, inspire, and build broad, inclusive communities through its artist residencies, exhibitions, collections, public programming and mentoring programs that spur creative expression and offer career pathways in the field of visual arts.

Our Mission

BWA is dedicated to creating opportunities for artists, working with master printers, to merge creative exploration and innovation with technical excellence to produce limited edition, fine art prints that challenge and inspire artists and the public. Brandywine is equally dedicated to fostering a greater appreciation and a deeper understanding of the vital role of printmaking in enriching the arts and in building a civil society among local, national and international communities.

Our mission is rooted in four core principles:
  1. Advance the Art of Printmaking: Provide professional facilities and collaborate with emerging, mid-career and established top-tier artists to produce and publish original fine art prints.
  2. Artist Support & Development: Provide artist-in-residence and fellowship programs to local, national and international artists, and promote their artwork through gallery exhibitions, art fairs, and traveling exhibitions.
  3. Education: Offer programs for students, adult learners and art enthusiasts, including workshops, ArtistsNConversation webinars, and Artura.org, BWA’s online art database and teaching tool.
  4. Legacy & Sustainability: Archive prints from every edition published and establish and place artists’ prints in satellite collections in museums, universities and colleges and with collectors, ensuring a lasting cultural record.

Discover the World through Art

BWA holds, promotes, and pursues a vision focused on developing and supporting programming that makes quality art and art experiences widely accessible and available to diverse national and international communities through direct and digital engagement.
